Trainee Accountant
Norwich · c. £28,500 · Full-time, permanent · Hybrid after probation

You've got a year or two in practice behind you. You can do a bank rec in your sleep, you've done a few VAT returns, and now you want a firm that will actually get you qualified and give you proper work along the way.

A modern, independent accountancy practice in Norwich with a clear sense of what it stands for. The client base is genuinely varied: owner-managed businesses, entrepreneurs, charities and social enterprises, so no two weeks look the same.

They're fully cloud-based and use AI tools properly, and they'll teach you to check the output rather than just trust it. The leadership team take training seriously, so you'll learn from people who really know their stuff.

What you'll be doing

  • Looking after bookkeeping for your own set of clients in Xero, FreeAgent and QuickBooks
  • Reconciling bank and control accounts, and spotting problems before they reach year-end
  • Preparing VAT returns under MTD for review
  • Preparing year-end accounts, working papers and corporation tax computations for review
  • Preparing straightforward self-assessment returns
  • Handling routine client queries and joining client video meetings, building up to leading them yourself

Who this will suit

  • Around 18 to 24 months in a UK accountancy practice
  • Hands-on bookkeeping and some VAT experience
  • Studying AAT, ACCA or ACA, or ready to carry on
  • Careful with detail and happy to check your own work
  • Clear and confident with clients, in writing and on video calls
