Financial Controller / Finance Manager - Central London

£70,000 - £95,000 per annum with great benefits

A unique opportunity has arisen for an experienced and commercially minded Financial Controller to join a successful and diverse SME group based in London. Operating across multiple sectors, including property and investment, this role offers full autonomy and responsibility for the financial management of several UK entities, with direct access to the Managing Director and wider leadership team.

You’ll be a qualified accountant with a strong blend of technical expertise and hands-on experience, capable of leading the finance function day-to-day while providing strategic financial insight to support business decision-making.

The Role

You’ll take charge of the end-to-end finance function, managing the group’s financial operations, reporting, compliance, and cashflow. Working closely with an Accounts Assistant, external advisors, and internal stakeholders, you’ll ensure the group operates efficiently and in line with statutory obligations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Full responsibility for group accounting, financial reporting, and compliance

  • Preparation of 18-month rolling cashflow forecasts with meaningful commentary

  • Production of quarterly board packs, including P&L, balance sheet, and variance analysis

  • Oversight of statutory accounts and corporation tax returns, working with external accountants

  • Submission of VAT returns, payroll approvals, and pension scheme oversight

  • Manage supplier payments, credit control, and company debit card usage

  • Act as key liaison for banks, external accountants, and the offshore parent company

  • Provide administrative support to the Company Secretary, including maintaining statutory registers and filing confirmation statements

  • Monitor financial health of customers and suppliers using Creditsafe

  • Lead and mentor the Accounts Assistant, including task delegation and development

  • Ensure compliance with GDPR, AML, document retention, and other key regulatory requirements

  • Manage property-related finances including rent demands and service charge accounts

  • Identify process improvements and maximise the use of finance software and systems

About You

  • Professionally qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)

  • Experience within an SME or multi-entity environment

  • Comfortable with hands-on responsibility and working closely with senior leadership

  • Strong understanding of statutory compliance, reporting deadlines, and tax obligations

  • Proficient in Sage 50 and Microsoft Excel (intermediate to advanced level)

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to business partner across departments

  • Organised, proactive, and able to manage competing priorities

  • Experience in property accounting or service charge reporting is an advantage
