A fully remote bookkeeping job, with a small independent practice, for someone who lives in Kent. Own portfolio, real client contact, and a team small enough that you won't be a number.

A small independent accountancy practice in Kent, led by a Chartered Accountant who built it from scratch and still works closely with every client.

They look after small and medium-sized businesses across the full range, from bookkeeping and payroll through to management accounts, tax and advisory work. So the bookkeeping sits next to the advisory side rather than being processed off in a corner.

Their reputation is built on communication. They are not the accountants you only hear from in January, and they aim to answer client queries the same working day. That is the standard the whole team works to.

You would look after your own portfolio of SME clients and be the person they come to, rather than passing work up a chain.

• Day to day bookkeeping for a portfolio of SME clients
• VAT returns, start to finish
• Bank reconciliations and keeping the ledgers clean
• Incomplete records through to trial balance
• Supporting monthly and quarterly management accounts
• Helping with payroll where it is needed
• Talking to clients directly about records, queries and deadlines
• Getting clients comfortable with their accounting software

The remote set-up is the norm here, not a temporary arrangement or a two-days-from-home compromise. You would genuinely work from home.

The reason they need you in Kent is so you can get to the office or to a client when it is actually useful. In practice that means occasional team days and the odd client visit, not a commute. If you live in Kent and want to stop commuting, this is a good one.

• An experienced bookkeeper, ideally from practice or another multi-client setting
• AAT qualified, part qualified, or qualified by experience
• Confident taking incomplete records through to trial balance
• Good VAT knowledge
• Comfortable on cloud software such as Xero, QuickBooks or Sage
• A good communicator, because that is what this firm is known for
• Organised and self-managing, since remote here means real autonomy
• Living in Kent and able to travel occasionally
