Audit Responsible Individual | Central London | £115,000 to £120,000

Most RI roles are a signing job with a title attached. This one is a succession plan.

A well-established central London accountancy practice is looking for a Responsible Individual to take on its audit registration. The current RI is a director who is stepping back from the role to focus on his own portfolio and the wider business, and he wants someone who will grow into a share of running the firm alongside him.

The practice sits within a larger European group, so there is real international work here, including UK subsidiaries of overseas parents and group reporting. The London office itself is small, around 40 people, which means you will know every client and your decisions will land quickly rather than disappearing into a committee.

Importantly, this is not a pure audit job. You will own the audit function and also carry a general practice portfolio across accounts and tax. If you like audit but would not want to do only audit, that is exactly the point of the role.

The role:

  • Acting as RI across a portfolio of around 55 audits, taking responsibility for quality, independence and the audit opinion
  • Leading fieldwork on the more complex assignments, including international group work
  • Owning the firm's audit compliance framework, cold file reviews and monitoring visits
  • Running a general practice portfolio: statutory accounts under FRS 102 and FRS 105, corporation tax review, and the advisory conversations that come with it
  • Managing and developing the audit team
  • Taking on a growing share of the operational running of the practice

What's on offer:

  • £115,000 to £120,000 depending on experience
  • A genuine route into running the London practice, not a vague promise of one
  • The backing of a substantial European group with the autonomy of a small office
  • A mixed client base including international subsidiaries, professional practices, property businesses and owner-managed companies
  • Variety across audit, accounts and tax rather than audit alone

You will be ACA or ACCA qualified and either hold RI status now or be able to apply for it with a clear route to registration. Recent UK practice audit experience is essential, and so is genuine breadth beyond audit.

If you are an RI who has been looking for something with a succession angle rather than another portfolio to sign, this is worth a conversation.
